Pinewood Derby Cars

It's time to start thinking about my Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby car design for 2011. None of that procrastinating and cramming a whole design process into one rushed evening to make weigh-in. No. Even though the race isn't until February 2011, December is a fine time to start deliberating and designing on paper. That gives me two whole months to shape my 7" woody.

The hardest decision for me is whether to recreate a vehicle or select an inanimate object for the challenge. This year, I'm debating between Herbie the Love Bug, or a pair of pants. Herbie was an awesome car and the whole "punch buggy" thing with my boys makes me smile (as long as they don't punch me while I'm driving!) The pair of pants was my youngest's idea, and I like the randomness of it. "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" takes on a whole new meaning.

I voted for Herby the Love Bug to be your 2011 pinewood derby car! I really like the classic cars so much! I like 'em so much that I even wished to ride one of 'em back in the day. That Mach 5 you've made for 2010 looks great, Joy! Good luck on your next pinewood car project!

Herby the Love Bug was a childhood dream car of mine! Heeh, that's a cool thing for me to imagine as a kid, don't you think? BTW, what concept did you choose?
